Overeem looked good in the beginning with the head evasion but the in the third he looked like he was thinking he was fighting in the K-1 again with the pushing of his hands and dropping his head with his arms to cover but not realizing he is not wearing big K-1 gloves to protect himself. He got really sloppy in his defense in the third, possibly lost his wind and cardio.
Overoid did not respect his opponent and just stood in front of him with zero technique got clipped.
If Overoid fought using technique he would have won but he thought this was an easy fight Big Mistake.
There are no ‘Easy’ fight in the Heavy Weight division one punch of knee can end any fight.

The big problem now is there is no contender for cain to fight. bigfoot got beat by cain recently. overeem lost jds just took a one sided beat down by cain. the winner of hunt vs struve could make a claim for the next shot (more likely for struve he is on an impressive 4 fight win streak) but even struve is a stretch bc he does not have a win over a top 10 guy. the most logical choice would be werdum if he was not doing tuf brazil. Werdum also has not had a recent win over an elite guy. He beat roy impressively but then took a step down in competition (or at least a lateral move but definitely a step down vs a marketable well known fighter) and fought russow.the only real contender right now is cormier and it is unlikely they would fight each other
What can you say about BF Silva? The guy gets better and better with every fight he has. I wouldn’t mind seeing him get another crack at Velasquez.

I’ve known overreem for a long time. he is only good if he is the aggressor and beating the opponent but as soon he gets hit with a shot he turtles up and never recovers, in short overreem doesn’t have the heart of a true fighter.
Now lets hope the hype train of rhonda gets derailed soon.

I’d say Overeem easily won the first two rounds, looking pretty cocky in the process. He came out in the third looking a little gassed, went to duck a punch like he had effectively been doing the whole fight, and silva anticipated it, aimed a little lower, caught him right in the head. Overreem was stunned, and too stupid to shoot for a take down or at least cover up and cut angles to get a few seconds to recover. He underestimated the guy the whole fight, and it eventually caught up with him. It certainly “kills the hype” but silva didn’t beat overeem here as much overeem beat himself. I bet if you put em back in the ring 6 months down the road Overeem wouldn’t make the same mistake. Remember how badly GSP beat serra after the outrageous upset?
