Actually it looked a lot more like Chuck vs Overeem. Overeem couldn’t do it without performance enhancers then, can’t do it now either. Silva couldn’t get out of the first before Cain turned him into mashed potatoes but he took Reem to 3 rounds then knocked him back into Pride. Just shows how much the Pride guys were overrated. Fedor, Overreem, Wandi(my favorite fighter), Shogun, Crocop, none of them matter here in the big leagues. They are all getting KO’ed by fighters who get KO’ed by the contenders here.

that was a brutal knockout. overeem does have a chin, just watch k-1 and see the shots he ate and overcome. against tyron spong, and other fighters. bigfoot is a pissed off 300 pounder with something to prove he can knock anyone out after connecting 12 times to the jaw..i hope overeem will be back. he’ll learn to be more humble maybe, hes still awesome. both guys are real fighters.much respect.

@dankarelli – Exactly. As a big Reem fan, I’ve always been worried about his ability to take big punches. In K1, he developed a style that protected his weakness (covering up behind big gloves and then landing devastating shots) that worked well for him there but couldn’t translate to mma.
Also, the threat of the TD in mma means his hands can’t stay up all the time, and even when they are (in this fight he made a point of keeping them down), they are tiny hands for his height and they don’t give him much cover.
Overall point is, when he finally gets hit with something solid, he gets stifled quickly. Werdum exposed this, and Bigfoot proved it. Either JDS or Cain would be reasonably assured that they could also do this to Reem.
Sucks to be that skilled, and still have a weak jaw. Then again, sucks to build a fighting strategy that isn’t based around not getting hit if you don’t trust your jaw. Just ask GSP – he’s developed a style where he doesn’t have to get hit at all. Alistair could come back if he developed a whole new fight style for high level mma, where strikers have decent hands and small gloves.

Just another example of how when somebody gets caught using steroids when they come back they are never the same without the roids. It was obvious at the weigh-ins Overeem was not on them so my advice would be he get back on them and be more cautious.

I hope this shuts up Alistair Overconfident, he was disrespectful and made fans into haters. I don’t hate him, but I sure don’t respect him at all anymore. I was willing to forgive the roids, but wanted him to at least be honest and come clean, but telling Silva he was a ‘dead man’ at the weigh in’s was stupid.
I expected Overoid to win the fight due to his kickboxing skill and knees. An area Silva is not as good, but Overoid couldn’t even beat him in that area. He showed clear disregard of Silva’s power and learned his own chin isn’t worth the stubble that’s on it.
Good way to screw the UFC for promoting you Overoid! Lost another fan here as well, can’t defend your cocky disrespecting roided ass anymore.

You do realize that Chuck Liddell has only one less win and one less loss than Anderson in Pride? You can’t call a guy with 3 wins and 2 losses a real contender in an organization. Dan Henderson, a UFC fighter, went over and owned Pride for far longer and with far more authority than Anderson Silva ever dreamed of.
