Alistair Overeem Tested Positive For Elevated Levels Of Testosterone, Must Explain To Nevada Athletic Commission

The UFC’s top heavyweight contender, Alistair Overeem has tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone and must now appear before the Nevada Athletic Commission before he can be licensed to fight at UFC 146.

Keith Kizer sent out emails with his test results to the media on Wednesday. Overeem is scheduled to take on champion Junior dos Santos on May 26 in Las Vegas. The fight now appears to be in jeopardy.

On the results, Overeem’s testosterone to epitestosterone (T/E) ratio was greater than 10-to-1, exceeding the allowable 6-to-1 limit. All of the heavyweights fighting on the card were tested following a UFC 146 press conference in Las Vegas on March 27. Frank Mir, Roy Nelson, Antonio Silva, Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos all produced negative tests.

Chael fails his test, everyone on here goes stupid. Reem fails, everyone on here blows it off saying “we all knew it”. If you knew it, why did you keep backing the man? At least Chael had a real excuse that was legitimately backed up, even if it was still against the rules. Plus I think Reem is on steroids as well as doping. And more fighters than not don’t use PEDs or crutches. Its just the ones that do bring a bad name to everyone. The only thing that my group of guys use is creatine. Raises the t/e slightly.

We all knew this anyway, it’s usually just a mater of time before you get caught . If the fight still happens it a lose lose situation for reem. If he wins he is a cheater that juiced, if he loses then he couldn’t beat JDS even with the use of steroids which makes JDS look even better. I still hope this fight will happen though

Dos Santos will probably just have to wait for his rematch with Cain Valasquez as Overeem cooks up some silly excuse that the Neveada Commission won’t buy.

People suffer from High testosterone levels called Hypergonadism, the opposite of chael’s condition… Hypogonadisim. They are people out there that bodies produces excessive testostorone… and i wouldn’t be surprised if allistar was one of those guys. I just think it’s unfair that people are gonna say “i told you so”… the fact is he’s been tested and tested and has never failed… He didn’t test positive for roids, people need to know the difference. More research needs to be done… i think it’s not uncommon for someone to have a 10:1 ratio T/E. But of course Floyd Landis was 11:1 ratio but he admitted he was doping and was disqualified from the Tour De France…

@ Roe Jogoan… how do you know overeem is on the juice? Where is the evidence besides this elevated test result? Where is the signs of roid abuse from his past shows? Genetics play a huge factor in someone’s growth potential. I don’t care if you wont acknowledge it or not.. people are so quick to say he’s taking steroids just because he’s big. We don’t know how his diet, strenght training, supplments…he could be doing 5000 plus calories a day… we don’t know.. Hey if you guys been around gyms long as I have you know who is on the juice. The Reem has every characteristic of a anabolic steroid user. Just look at him especially the fights in K-1 in Japan. His jaws looks like pumped with air and muscle texture look unmistakably unnatural. To me this is why that I consider the Fedor the greatest heavyweight in MMA history bar-non. The UFC needs to clean up its act and kick out all the cheaters because it’s starting to lose the credibility.

Normal ration is 1:1… It is exceedingly rare for someone to have a ratio above 4:1, and if so, there are a host of other health issues that go along with this.

Just so that everyone is clear, the T/E ratio is Testosterone to Epitestosterone. The function of epitestosterone in the body is poorly understood, but it is almost always (like near 100%) produced in a volume matching testosterone production… even in cases of hypergonadism.

T/E ratio CAN be affected by some legal supplements and tremendous stress events. And, this is probably how Reem will get around the positive result… If the second sample comes up with the same result, he will have one of these supplements or meds on hand as an excuse. Then, he will request another test. I suspect that he will have a way of getting around another positive.

Like I said, they are ALL taking something. I have no idea how society should handle this, but I am not satisfied with the head-in-the-sand approach we are currently taking.

I mean, it’s just puzzles me that he was able to produce clean results every test if infact he was taking something. I really like Alistar, i never really looked at him as a roid freak.. I respect his ability and i guess this just kind of upsets me because i really did think he was doing this all natural, of course maybe legal supplplements and a good hardcore clean diet.. Guess i need to really understand how PED, HGH, ROIDS really work. Alistar didn’t know the test was coming so that is why he test results were flagged, plain and simple! Great job NASC on random testing..

So many have tested positive,yet zero have admitted to taking it.

I have to say that it is sad that there’s actually people believing that not ONE of the heavyweights isn’t on something. As someone who started martial arts at 5, I still believe that a lot of these guys actually make it happen with a lot of work and maybe SOME supplements. Natural supplements that can offer benefits to weight gain, muscle recovery, protein, development, etc… that are all naturally derived. There is ways with nutrition to slightly raise testerone levels… Not too an extreme level, but there are ways.
From an objective perspective, everything that is created in drug form, supplement form, in a syringe… is derived from what is around us – natural too a certain degree. Just as looking out onto field and imagining that with the right direction and knowledge you can make an xbox and a t.v.. Really, it is a f****** ridiculous comment, but I’m attempting to shed light on the fact that I think it is completely f****** ridiculous to say that every heavyweight is doping. Eating well, naturally supplementing, and training like a beast will make you a beast. There’s enough technology and nutritional know how to increase performance without chemically altering someone’s body.
Maybe I’m a surrealist and believe that most don’t abuse, but I think it’s a weak person/man who believes that someone has to be using to be near the top. Maybe this is a reflection on your own inadequacies and weakness.
Once again, just want to say that I don’t agree or believe that Overeem is clean, but JDS, Cain, even Mir (who put on some beef after his Brock beat down) I believe are clean. I still have to believe that we don’t have to rely on chemicals engineering to actually improve at what we do.

guys please lets stop being ignorant s here, one thing its cheating another thing is genetics, good training, good eating and some busting supplements and im not talking roids… alistair is that big because his body, his genetics makes him that big. back in the pride days he use to be a skynny motha.. well he was young and as all young man when we are in our early days of body development we tend to be lighter and skinnier. now alistar is a man so he has a mans body, thats why he has gotten so big, he wasnt going to stay skynny all his life. lets take for example jon jones, right now he fights at 205 because he is way to young and he still has a teenage body, lets wait for a few years when he gets older how big he is going to get. and when jones gets that big as oveeremm as pure genetics freak then people are going to start saying o jones is on roids he is too big. guys genetics genetics genetics, why some guys perform better than others, why are some guys fat other skinny and others muscle freaks, genetics, i have been training for years in the gym, and my best friend has some incredible genetics, we are dieting the same doing the same work outs, weight the same but the shape and streghts of our bodies are diferent, and its called genetics. so please take your head out of your ass and see the facts. go online do the research. when an storoid test is done, its a clear result for the drug then you are busted, but just having high ratio levels dont mean s…t. its all controversy to make people talk. this fight will happen so dont stress about it.
