Gus looked very good tonight! He was quicker, his footwork was excellent, he connected with more punches, he had better head movement, his timing was great, he was frustrating Silva every round. Terrific win for the Swede!!

There was no running in this fight. Gustaffson lit up Silva in almost every exchange, dropped him a couple of times, threw him around like a bag of potatoes… what else can anyone ask?
You may like Silva, but he was outclassed tonight. It happens. Ring rust, being out of the juice, facing a very fast fighter with good footwork… If you think it’s easy, go try it yourself.

Mauler looked great, Silva looked… well, he was there.

This is my first time watching Thiago fight and I was not impressed at all. Commentators kept talking about his stand-up which in my opinion is non-existent. He had no footwork, no head movement, dropped his hands when throwing punches, and didn’t know how to cut the ring. Maybe it was ring-rust due to inactivity but that was my observation from this fight.

Alex is super fast with his shots and light on his feet, but he could have run a little less, he has the talent so why not use it.
Thiago is always very entertaining to watch, he is one tough son of a bitch that always wants to fight and goes forward.

Next to that i didn’t think Gustafsson dependend only on hit-and-run tactics. He actually pushed forward a lot, and clearly countered a lot of Silva’s attack.

i didnt see any running here either just a guy picking his shots and moving. He fought a smart fight. Yea I liked Thiago in the beginning but Alex’s performance made me a fan. Im not going to say he’ll beat JJ but should be a good fight.

Completely outclassed.. And the reason he showed no “killer instinct” as someone has asked, is because he is a smart fighter and respected Silva’s power. I was very very impressed with the clinic he put on. I agree its time for them to throw him in with someone with more skills. For some reason i keep thinking Machida would be a great match.

mr. lower case – 1st You could retain judgment of other people’s IQ until have a grasp on the english language. The word you meant to use is “their” not “they’re”. As it reads it basically says “until THEY ARE IQ’s are nearly as low as yours.”.
2nd – Diaz did beat Condit. If you don’t want to box with Diaz and you’re scared of his BJJ, turn down the fight. Backing up, and throwing light leg kicks is not Effective striking, aggression, or octagon control. Those are the judging criteria. Notice the use of the word effective, I could tummy slap you for 25 minutes, but is that the point of combat?

Controlling the fight, having a good game plan, good movement and avoiding damage and punishment doesnt mean your running, it means your a better fighter than your opponent,…at least on that night.

@greengiant, i realize thetes alot of dana hate, but before you go making accusations, maybe u should get your facts straight. Sweden only allows 3 round mma fights. Besides that, sweden has no athletic comission, so there is no governing body to aprove a 5 round fight. When there is no athletic comission, then the ufc follows the unified rules of mma, which do not allow for non title 5 round fights.
So as sad as it might make you, dana white is not resonsible for everything that pisses you off. The ufc does not decide how long a fight is, an athletic comission does.

listening to Anik & Ken Flo doesn’t have me missing Goldie & Rogan. Both pairs of commentators have done their jobs … promoting the UFC. It just became more obvious in this fight — even with Anik and ken Flo as being the commentators. I’m understanding now that Ken Flo, Anik, Brian Stan
The bias provided( comparison to a fighter 10 levels above you) is /has been over the top.

Tiago y no take downs y no clinch.. he did not use all of his tools.. that was all of Gustafsson he used all he had. the Tiago that fought evans would of deafeated gustafsson.. Sliva has a a good clinch game and has decent takedowns and TOP LEVEL grappling that we did not see.. we saw him pressure be he didnt pressure into the cage like he usually does he has good doubles and slings when he has his oppenent againt the cage… And his GNP is also TOP LEVEL.. I agree with Dana Whites Mom He was Paid Off..lol
