Affliction Signs Tito Ortiz To Fight Renato Babalu Sobral

Ortiz’s Last fight was in May at UFC 84. He lost a unanimous-decision to Lyoto Machida and dropped his record to 0-2-1 in his past three fights. Now it appears that he has become Affliction’s highest paid fighter.

Tito said that his first fight would be against Renato “Babalu” Sobral at Affliction’s second show, which takes place Oct. 11 at the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of UNLV in Las Vegas.

Even with his resent loses Ortiz remains a top box-office and pay-per-view draw, and he said that Affliction gave him a long-term deal that will keep him involved as both a fighter and executive involved in the company.

Tito sighted Affliction backer Donald Trump, whom Ortiz met while a contestant on “The Celebrity Apprentice,” as a major reason he signed with the Affliction promotion. He said American Fight League and EliteXC had also made large offers.

who would sign tito. he is washed up. his last win was over an ancient ken shamrock. he has gone 0-2-1 what is afliction thinking paying him more than fedor. they will be fileing for bankruptcy pretty soon. to pay fighters millions of dollars, u need to be earning millions of profit. affliction is not. if they want to run thos company around tito they will not succeed. i mean all the ufc has to do to steal ppvs from affliction is put chuck on a fight card. also for whomever said rampage is going to affliction, i highly doubt that, he really respects the ufc and i bet he will stay there a while.i hope affliction can compete with the december ufc fight card that is being rumored. supposed to have chuck vs forrest assuming chuck beats rashasd, big nog vs mir, pierre vs penn and wandy vs rampage. if this card happens it will be the largest ppv buy in mma histiry

Lol at all the big head comment. I only watch Tito to see him lose. I don’t enjoy it much when he’s controlling the match because all he does is go for a takedown for the whole match and when he does he just elbows from the guard. Boring. I like how Machida destroyed him.

If everyone would take into consideration sponsers, apparel, and everthing else that comes with being a UFC fighter I think that they will see that tehy make buttloads of money. Also what is released to the public for fights are just base pays. I don’t see Affliction paying like they did last time forever. And to the people that say Dana doesn’t pay well the fighters themselves signed the contract if it wasn’t enough then why sign. I hate when a fighter like Tito and Couture sign something and then bitch about it. Don’t get me wrong they are both great fighters Couture is a MMA king but if you dont like the terms dont sign the contract.

I feel like I’m listening to queer eye for the straight guy with all these comments on Tito’s appearance..I just hope this forces the UFC to step their game up in terms of paying their fighters, especially the talented guys who aren’t champions but work hard and always put on a good show…every fighter is potentially an injury away from their career being ended, so they need to be paid well. Having said all that, damn Tito’s got a big ass head!

The UFC needs to get with the program. Cross-promotional fights, fighter flexibility, and increased paydays are the future of the sport. The UFC will continue to lose fighters to bigger purses and more freedom to fight in different organizations. And I say this as a loyal UFC supporter.

Example: You go to college for 4 years, develope a lot of a skills and put together a prestigious resume. You then seek out a career, and get hired at a big name company. You feel proud. You do a lot for the company. 5 years later,your boss hires a few guys with less experience and less training, and pays them more then you. That contract you signed, and all the time you put into the company, thinking you were well redwarded for your ambition and hard work, now seems like a slap in the face insult. Hence, we have a tito situation. Is he an egotistical prick, yes. And sure, he hasnt won in three fights. Did they still bring in HUGE amounts of revenue, and sell a shitload of tickets, yes. Most of you guys are too biased to just look at the facts, and decide if his situation with the ufc is statistically fair. And it’s not. I hope affliction does well… im sick of ufc monopolizing the mainstream market of MMA, charging more and more for every PPV they put out, and not even showing half the fights on the fight card.
